We have both been pleasantly surprised at the excellence and freshness of the meals we have been served during our stay at PEI. The freshness of the seafood, in particular, will spoil me for quite a while in the future. Yesterday’s meals were no exception. For lunch at Carr’s Oyster House, Ted had a cup of chowder, six oysters, and haddock sandwich. I had a bowl of chowder and a oyster po’boy sandwich. They were superb and tasted unlike seafood I have had in the past.
Dinner at the Blue Mussel was, perhaps, even better. We get an outdoor table on the waterside. The sun is warming our faces as it is still high in the sky at 6:30 pm and we toast each other with pints of local beer. A heron is fishing in the harbor, statue-like. A slight smell of the sea surrounds us and we wait for the first course. Ted gets a huge bowl of beer-and-lime mussels and I a seafood chowder with scallops, mussels and clams. They are both fantastic.
Then our main courses arrive of halibut for Ted and haddock for me. Again the freshness and flavoring are astounding as I have never tasted fish like this before. This is quite a vacation.
