We all have weaknesses, but one of the most elemental is ice cream. particularly in the summer. As we were checking out of our hotel on Sunday, one of the employees was giving Ted the low down on where we should go for ice cream. And Kenny’s was on the top of the list. It makes its own ice cream and was right on our way. Our guide driver Dan also wrote it on our map telling us that we could not miss it.
When we arrive at Kenny’s, it is a typical old-style roadside venue with a large dirt parking lot and picnic tables outside. As we pull up, Ted lingers over the menu trying to decide what to get. For me the choices are more simple as I focus on the limited home-made flavors. I go for the Mariner’s sea-salt caramel, Ted went all out with a hot fudge sundae.
The oldest touch to Kenny’s were the red and blue View-Master devices, each with a circular reel, that were resting on the order counter. As I could not resist, I took a gander and saw in full 3D imagery, pictures of Kenny’s concoctions, from complicated sundaes to simple cones. It reminded me of the View-Master I had as a child, pre-Pixar where stories would pop out of this simple device that had color and life to them. A far cry of what we could see on our 19-inch black and white television in my parent’s house.
Ted enjoyed his sundae and I my cone. We rested and continued our journey.
