Mud Machines

We find a campsite with picnic tables at Bonds Landing in the Green Ridge State Forest to rest and have a nice lunch after bouncing in a van for the last 40 minutes or so. In this section of the park, there is a couple of hundred yard expanse between the canal and river so the campsites are nicely cloistered from the trail.

Ted picked up sandwiches, fruit, cookies and chips this morning as we were told there would be no food between our destinations. And that was so true.

Laying down my bike on an adjacent picnic table, I noticed for the first time how muddy it had become. Yesterday in the rain it had become a bit grimy but that was nothing compared to what we picked up along the C&O. The Cannondale logo was nearly covered in mud and the holes in the frame were filled with chunks of the C&O towpath trail.

Ted’s bike was more covered with crud as his wider tires, while giving him superior traction and control, also pick up more mud. He truly has the muddier machine. But like yesterday I am sure our B&B will have a cleaning station that will wash the mud of the day away and get us ready for the next day’s adventure.
