With a cool and wet Spring, I can only hope for warmer days ahead. But the damp and cold did not stop Charlotte and Olivia from harvesting strawberries on the first day of their summer with us. After a trip to the library, they were ready to attack the two strawberry patches and grab as many tasty sweets as they could.

Charlotte has become a master at removing the bird and rodent netting from the garden and spotting every ripe strawberry in the patch. Though her younger sister Olivia does not have her reach and dexterity, she more than makes up for it with an eagle eye trained to spot the smallest of fruits hidden in a dense thicket of green leaves.
Both are exhibiting a degree of self control as neither pops every berry picked into their mouths instead saving them for a luncheon dessert.
Juana and I were able over the weekend to pick over a quart of berries for jam. (Last year’s crop was a total bust so we have both been looking forward to this year’s harvest.)

After picking more than a pint of fruit, the girls were treated to strawberries and ice cream as a well-deserved treat. Not a bad way to start the Summer.
