For the next week or so, my buddy Ted and I will be viewing nature from the respective saddles of our bikes along the D&L Trail in Pennsylvania. Unlike other trips where we have gone in a single direction, we will be starting in Bristol, PA going to Black Diamond, PA and then back over 8 days for a little under 300 miles.
The trip should be a great mix of the industrial and natural. Over 200 years ago the largest seam in the world of anthracite (hard) coal was found in Summit Hill, PA, helping to launch the industrial revolution. (One of the counties we will be biking through is called ironically Carbon County.) Old industrial plants in towns including Allentown and Bethlehem will be hard to ignore and miss.
On the other hand, there is much natural beauty and forests on our route and we hope to take a day off from biking to go white water rafting.
It should be a lot of fun. wish us good weather!🚴♂️🚴
