It’s flower Friday again! We can’t keep up with all the new blooms that emerge every week in the garden so here are the top ones.
Chives (Allium schoenoprasum): This puffball of a flower is not only lovely but it has a scent with a big kick to it.
Rhododendron: I have no idea of the species of this rhode but its flower is so different and more exotic than any of the others in our garden.
Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia): Flowering has just started on our mountain laurels. Flowers are plentiful as I have remembered each year to cut the spent blossoms after they go to seed.
Lupine (Lupinus): Started from seed last year, this plant made it through the winter. Let’s see if it can persist every year.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale): Such a tiny delicate flower on such a huge plant. Insects swarm around its inverted bell.
Dogwood (Cornus Florida): Overlooked by many, the native dogwood gives off as good a display as any other flowering tree.
Amaryllis: Christmas in June?! No just one of the many bulbs we have brought up from the basement to flower and love.
Cornflower (Centaurea cyanus): This fun native is trying to keep its place in our patch of day lilies. It is not succeeding.
Iris: This flower is one of our favorites as its delicate pattern and shape is the very essence of a June flower.
