“I’m good with 60/40,” says Charlotte when it comes to sharing strawberries (Fragaria x ananassa) with her little sister Olivia. They invade our garden together for the first time ever looking to pick strawberries and some vegetables. Olivia is a bit young and new to the garden but she is enjoying the feel of the grass on her toes and motions to grab the strawberries, which are a bright red, her favorite color. Katie gives her a perfect little strawberry to lick and Olivia curls her tongue around it, savoring its juices.
Charlotte, on the other hand, is her usual self, popping more berries into her mouth than the basket. We try to divert both away with sugar snap peas (Pisum sativum ‘Macrocarpon Group’) but the strawberries are too much of a lure.
We expect many more visits.
