It is Flower Friday! Here is a sampling of the different flowers that are poking their heads in my garden today.
Tulips: Having a fence definitely keeps down the deer from chomping on these tasty treats and luckily the rabbits have been ignoring them so far this season.
Lady’s smock (Cardamine pratensis): This lovely little wildflower pops up in the strangest of places every year in our lawn. I avoid it with the mower leaving patches of flowers and tall grass.
Purple dead nettle (Lamium purpureum): This mint family member (by its square stem) found its way next to the raised beds in the front yard. Edible and highly medicinal, its taste is strange to Juana and me but I love its delicate purple flower.
Hyacinth (Hyacinthus): These fragrant flowers are scattered throughout our gardens.
Grape hyacinth (Muscari): I love the look of this tiny flower appearing so much like a pyramid of grapes.
Wild violet (Viola sororia): If you look closely, the flower looks much as would that of an orchid. Absolutely lovely and often overlooked.
Bridal-wreath (Spiraea prunifolia): The cascading and dense nature of these tiny white flowers represents an over abundance that you typically don’t see until the summer in plants.
Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale): To some a scourge to others a joy. But be honest, how many of us have not marveled that with a single breath, a a perfect orb of seeds takes flight ephemerality?
Daffodils (Narcissus): It is the end for many of them now, but they are among the first flowers up to give us pure joy for the coming season.
