Charlotte says goodby to her grandfather and his biking buddy Ted It being Summer, it is time for me and Ted to flee our respective homes and head off for yet another excellent adventure on our bikes. This year we have decided to bike the Ohio to Erie Trail, a 326-mile trip extending from Cincinnati to Cleveland following old rail trails as well as canal paths. Unlike the last two trips, biking the Great Allegheny Passage/C&O Canal and Prince Edward Island Confederation Trail, this path is relatively unpublicized and it was only through a random search did we discover it. But once we did we thought it would be perfect for our third trip. It met all of our key criteria: —There are not many hills —There are ample good restaurants along the way —There are nice B&B’s to rest at —There are many interesting spots to view —Each day would be no more than 50 miles on the road From being able to tour the Rock & Roll Museum in Cleveland to riding alongside Amish horse-drawn buggies near Fredericksburg, we will have a varied trip. But what both of us are looking forward to are the surprises that we cannot even begin to anticipate as we make this journey through the Buckeye State. As with our prior two trips, our best times have come when we have followed our instincts and just taken a turn off the road. We are ready for our adventure though neither of us have biked much in the past week due to the crummy, rainy weather that blanketed the Northeast. Ted has upped his game this year as he has invested in a much lighter carbon-framed bike, which probably weighs half of mine. Hopefully he won’t leave me too far behind in the dust. I’ll let you know.
