We make a quick stop at the Jacques Cartier Provincial Park, a park that offers red sand beaches and spots for camping. There are a good number of campers in the park but far from what would be here if this were in the states with such a lovely view and vantage on a holiday weekend. A statue of Jacques Cartier stands proudly next to flags of Canada and PEI. Cartier was an early European explorer who claimed Canada for France, which was something you could do back then, in 1534.
The significance off this statue is that Cartier apparently landed his ship near this park on June-30-July 1, 1534, exactly 484 years ago this day. How ironic that we started our trip on the birthday of when PEI was discovered by a European explorer! I guess this is a good excuse for me to have a piece of cake.
