It is harvest time in the garden with vegetables, fruits and flowers ready to be picked. This is the Summer of tomatoes as 5 pounds of these fruits are ready for consumption each day. Beyond stuffing our faces with cherry tomatoes, the sauce tomatoes are bubbling on the stove and the large slicing tomatoes are cut thick, for juicy Summer sandwiches. Beans and radishes are plentiful; peppers, eggplants and carrots are smaller in number and size. Beets, scallions, cabbage, leeks, and squashes will be ready to sample next month.
Blueberries are at the end of the season to Charlotte’s sadness while blackberries have come into their own to Olivia’s approval. Each picks (and consumes) their favorites each day they are with us. And Juana surprises me every day with a new and lovely bouquet of flowers. There are lots of choices, both large and small, in the garden. It is always a lovely and fragrant surprise.
