The gardens I manage at Ann’s Place are visited (and weeded) by me once a week. But rather than the incremental changes I see in my garden every day, the weekly differences are more extreme.
This week, the biggest change is in the pollinator garden where I have planted lavender, anise hyssop, monarda, sunflowers, and milkweed.
Though the lavender flowers are just beginning to pop, the milkweed is in full bloom and incredibly fragrant. I find it hard to describe its scent as its complex floral tones with a hint of vanilla thwart a simple description.
The bees and other pollinators swarm over the flowers, as excited and interested as I.
Pulling myself away from this space, I survey the rest of the grounds and find a lone muchroom at the base of a cut down ash tree. I see others beginning to emerge from the lawn. I continue my walk.
