It’s the first flower Friday of the season. Like many prior Springs, all of the bulbs are not coming up when they should.. . .everything is coming up now. Two of the few bulbs yet to flower are the tulips and hyacinths being followed by most of the perennials. Another strange season.
Lesser celandine: An invasive, also called fig buttercup, has started to take hold above my two septic fields. I probably should look to remove it and its tubers before it takes over.
Snowdrops: Very late this year and still giving a bit of a show.
Daffodils: Both large and small varieties are emerging all over the property in lovely clumps.
Hellebore: Many of my hellebores appear not to have survived Winter. This one, however, is spectacular in bloom.
White squill: This Scilla is perhaps the most dominant small bulb on the property planted throughout the gardens.
Crocus: Few of the crocuses are planted where we put them. Our gardening squirrels have other ideas as to their best place in the yard.
Glory of the snow: Ironically named for when it is blooming now, this star-shaped Scilla pops from the leaf litter in our beds.
