The typical surprise of Spring growth is more intense this year as we have not had the prior weeks to observe its tiny signs. Instead, the melt of six inches of snow last week creates a fresh show for us.
Crocuses planted by squirrels in the lawn have emerged as have the snowdrops. Like in past years the hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils are all popping at the same time. And either a squirrel or raccoon has been busy trying to dig up my saffron crocuses. Luckily their steel mesh encasing has kept them safe. With lots of warmth and rain this week expected, there should be many more surprises.

Do you harvest saffron for personal consumption? If so, please describe technique
and taste.
That we do. It is done with tweezers carefully removing the pollinated blooms and placing them into a jar.
Save some for Ted. He likes saffron-infused dishes.
