It has finally warmed up enough so I can move all my seedlings from the indoor germination table and light to the greenhouse. The tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) are in the most need of transplanting and Charlotte is here to help.
With nearly 50 plants to pot up, she wields the Sharpie pen and labels each peat pot with the variety so I don’t become confused. The majority of these will be going to my clients at Ann’s Place. Removing the seedlings from their plastic cell packs, the scent of tomato is strong as I stroke the leaves. I use the fat end of a chop stick to push each plant out to minimize disturbing the roots. With Charlotte at my side, the transplants are quick and successful.
My other plants are not in need yet to be moved, though some of the basil (Ocimum basilicum) may need to be cut back. All of the herbs and vegetable seedlings have come up well though the same cannot be said of the flowers. For some reason, I got less than 30% germination for all of the seeds I purchased.
The sunflower (Helianthus) seeds harvested from my garden, however, all sprouted just fine. Though it is a bit late in the season, I will make a final outdoor attempt at seeding the flowers to be put into our gardens.
