Seeding the future

It’s time to start seeding! Because I am not sure about being able to get all the plants for my Ann’s Place clients wholesale, I am starting up what they will need for one of our classes in late May. In this class we make herbal hanging baskets. For it I am growing four herbs they can select from:

Greek oregano (Origanum heracleoticum)

Stevia

Sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum)

German thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

To minimize any potential transplanting shock, I purchased 2×2 inch peat pots that my clients can easily place into hanging planters. The biggest trick for me is to plant the extremely tiny seeds. Good thing I have my hand seed sower, which makes the job much easier for the oregano and thyme.

I have never planted stevia before and it is a challenge given the extremely tiny size of the seeds. I use my knife’s set of tweezers to select each seed, placing it on top of the soil. We will see how well this works.

The basil seeds are ginormous when compared to these others. I easily place them into the soil and now I have all 120 pots into the two trays. With water and a heating mat, they are poised to germinate.

Grow babies, grow!
