Beans for dinner

Beans and more beans are in the garden. I am pulling both bush beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) as well as those of the pole variety (Phaseolus coccineus). This veg can be tricky as it hides well under its large and expressive leaves. Pushing aside a leaf, long pendulous legumes hang waiting to be harvested. This year, the bugs have been kind and not nibbled on too many.

I bite into the first one I pull and am rewarded by a loud crunch and delightful flavor. Just picked vegetables can often be eaten raw with a texture and a taste unfamiliar to most people. I sample a few more and then harvest enough as a start for dinner.

The pole beans differ greatly by type and length. I planted a variety around each pole so I am not sure what I will grab as I thrust my hand into a teepee of bean foliage. Fat green ones as well as thinner red ones emerge.

Dinner looks to be mighty fine.
