Though it has warmed a bit, I decide to start some microgreens early. Prior to the big freeze we had last week, I brought in the two trays of Corn salad (Valerianella locusta) I had dug up in the fall. They had been surviving well in my greenhouse, but I did not want to tempt fate. As an experiment, I will leave one in the garage, bringing it back and forth to the greenhouse as temperatures dictate and leave the other in the solarium under grow lamps. In addition to this, Charlotte helps me seed up a couple of trays of greens. I have her place radish (Raphanus sativus) seeds 1/2 inch apart in neat rows. She spots a huge bag of sugar snap peas (Pisum sativum ‘Macrocarpon Group’). “Can we plant these?” she asks. I have no objections so she cuts deep furrows into the seedling flat and drops in the peas. I’ll be interested to see what emerges.
