January bulbs

Every time I come back from the supermarket this time of year, I always return with a plant. Though spray roses from South America are always appreciated, I try to get plants that will live on in the years to come. Miniature daffodils (Narcissus Tete-a-Tete) are top of my list. Their bright yellow flowers brighten up many a windowsill in our house and reminds my wife of her long departed father. After they finish blooming, we put them into the garage to dry out, keeping them until Fall to plant. They come back every year. I also purchase tulips (Tulipa) and hyacinths (Hyacinthus) but I have less luck with them returning to bloom every year so I only acquire them when nothing else presents itself. And when the daffodils are no longer in the market, primroses (Primula vulgaris) make their appearance in the stores and my shopping cart.
